| Created in 1816 by French privateer Michel Aury, Galveston port is today the first port of departure in North America for carribean cruises. Located in the island of Galveston 2 miles off the mainland, it is linked to the continent by a causeway. Galveston is only a 50 miles drive from Houston but it remains a piece of wilderness and quietness in a region in full economic boom. The island has 57,000 inhabitants and offers all the facilities you can find anywhere in a big city including the best hospital-university in Texas but without the fuss and the hassle of a big town. |
