Before the election of November 2008, I made that picture of Democrat running candidate Obama, hoping he would be elected. I put the painting on the window’s sill facing the street and I took a picture that I sent to Le Figaro saying a local artist was thus encouraging the African-American candidate. They published the picture on their site. And Obama was elected.

After Ike struck, the City of Galveston poured millions of gallons of water on Broadway Avenue’s oak trees to try to save them. It was like a plasma for survival. Will it work ? We will know that next Spring.
CRYSTAL BEACH’S REVIVAL

The peninsula of Bolivar where there is the little village of Crystal Beach was devastated by Ike : 3600 constructions, houses, offices, schools, were destroyed by the wind and the surge of water which was 18 feet high in some places. Today, four months later, it still looks like a war zone. We used to have a beach house there and it is totally gone as shows the picture below. People still think that Bolivar can make a comeback. I hope so.

In Galveston there is a development project that houses thousands of African-Americans. It has been so badly damaged by Ike that nobody lives there anymore.

In Galveston there is a legend that says we have three suns of different colors, red, yellow and black. When the black sun shows its hideous face, an hurricane will devastate the island ten days later. On 3th of September 2008, the black sun appeared briefly on the horizon. Hurricane Ike truck on the 13th.
