Everything has been said about Adolf Hitler and everybody has made a comment about him. Some quotes are quite interesting and reveal a lot about the Fuhrer. Here are some that I deem worth of a quote even if they are contradicting each other. Hitler's personality was complex and nobody really knew him or understood him well. But first, I would like to propose you to read an article written in 1941 by Hauptmann Mayr who recruited Hitler in 1919 to "spy" on the Communists and the Reds in post-world war Germany. It might be a little bit "inflated" but it is revealing of the real man : Was Hitler the mere puppet of stronger forces, notably Goering ?
And now some quotes : "A fanatically hysteric romantic with a brutal will." Karl Alexander von Muller, nazi historian. " The Fuhrer was a madman surrounded by serfs." General Leo Geyr von Schweppenburg, panzer Commander during WW2, in 1945 "God gave the savior to the German people. We have faith, deep and unshakeable faith, that he [Hitler] was sent to us by God to save Germany." "How shall I give expression, O my Führer, to what is in our hearts? How shall I find words to express your deeds? Has there ever been a mortal as beloved as you, my Führer? Was there ever belief as strong as the belief in your mission. You were sent us by God for Germany!" Hermann Goering. "We believe that the Fuhrer is fulfilling a divine mission to German destiny! This belief is beyond challenge." Rudolf Hess. "We believe on this earth in Adolf Hitler alone! We believe in National Socialism as the creed which is the sole source of grace! We believe that Almighty God has sent us Adolf Hitler so that he may rid Germany of the hypocrites and Pharisees." Robert Ley, Head of the German Labour Front (DAF). "He who serves our Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler, serves Germany and he who serves Germany, serves God." Baldur von Schirach, Head of the Hitler's Youth ”He was a ice-cold realist, a profoundly calculating person.” André-Francois Poncet, French ambassador "By nature Hitler was a bohemian, he allowed himself to be guided almost exclusively by emotional considerations.. He often said that a single brilliant idea was more valuable than a whole lifetime of conscientious office work.” Otto Dietrich, Head of Hitler's Press Service "To be a member of his private circle, it sufficed to love Opera." Nicholaus von Bulow, Hitler's Luftwaffe adjutant "Hitler has said to his people 'I offer you danger and death' and as a result a whole nation flings itself to his feet." George Orwell, writer "Hitler was basically an artist." Albert Speer, Architect, Minister of Armaments "Hitler was basically an architect." John Toland, Hitler's historian "He is Germany little savior." Winifred Wagner, vidow of Siegfried Wagner, son of Richard, and Director of the Bayreuth Festival "To this very day (1945) I do not know what he thought or knew or really wanted. I only knew my own thoughts and suspicions." General Alfred Jodl, Hitler's closest strategic adviser "Hitler was a demon but I realized it too late." Admiral Erich Raeder, Commander-in- Chief of the wartime Kriegsmarine "I have never been able to understand how Hitler was capable, with his unmelodious and raucous voice, with his crude, often un-Germanically constructed sentences, and with a conspicuous rhetoric entirely at odds with the character of the German language, of winning over the masses with his speeches, of holding their attention and subjugating them for such appalling lengths of time." Victor Klemperer, writer and professor "Hitler is lonely, So is God. Hitler is like God." Reichminister Hans Frank. "We have a feeling that Germany has been transformed into a great house of God, including all classes, professions and creeds, where the Führer as our mediator stood before the throne of the Almighty." -Joseph Goebbels, in a broadcast, 19 April 1936. "God had brought [the German] Volk into being and he had done so through Hitler, Volk was race and God wants race." Joachim Hossenfelder, Protestant country pastor in Sillies, head of the German Christians Movement "If anyone can lay claim to God's help, then it is Hitler, for without God's benevolent fatherly hand, without his blessing, the nation would not be where it stands today. It is an unbelievable miracle that God has bestowed on our people." Bernhard Rust, in a speech to a mass meeting of German Christians on June 29, 1933 "Hitler is lonely, So is God. Hitler is like God." Reichminister Hans Frank "We have a feeling that Germany has been transformed into a great house of God, including all classes, professions and creeds, where the Führer as our mediator stood before the throne of the Almighty." Paul Joseph Goebbels in a broadcast, 19 April 1936. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. The way has been shown to us by the Führer." Dean Eckert, sermon at Tegel, North Berlin, 10 February 1935 "Oppressed by a terror of time, Hitler wanted to compress a century's development into two decades." Albert Krebs, Gauleiter of Hamburg "I have never met a happier people than the Germans and Hitler is one of the greatest men. The old trust him; the young idolise him. It is the worship of a national hero who has saved his country." David Lloyd George, Daily Express, 17.9.1936 "He has a supreme intellect. I have known only two other men to whom I could apply such distinction - Lord Northcliffe and Lloyd George. If one puts a question to Hitler, he gives an immediate, brilliant clear answer. There is no human being living whose promise on important matters I would trust more readily." Viscount Rothermere "When I said that Herr Hitler's action was right and inevitable, the storm of abuse that was about to burst on me was suddenly checked by Mr. Lloyd George saying exactly the same thing. It is inconceivable that a single vote should be cast against him." George B. Shaw and the best of the best for the end : "In fifteen years that have followed this resolve, he has succeeded in restoring Germany to the most powerful position in Europe, and not only has he restored the position of his country, but he has even, to a very great extent, reversed the results of the Great War.... the vanquished are in the process of becoming the victors and the victors the vanquished.... whatever else might be thought about these exploits they are certainly among the most remarkable in the whole history of the world." – Winston J.Churchill, 1935. Conclusion : "Do not believe what people say about anybody, they are just plain idiots who do not know what they are talking about." The Webmaster |
